Called to Be: Access & Excellence

Title:Celebrating 25 years of scholarship support and a thriving Wall Street network

The Wall Street Alliance, Georgetown’s first alliance organization, recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of its annual scholarship dinner, which honors someone from the business community and raises funds for undergraduate scholarships. What began as a small-group effort to bring together Hoyas working in financial services has since grown into a professional networking organization of thousands. Today, the Wall Street Alliance Endowed Scholarship Fund has a market value exceeding $20 million, helping to ensure that the best students can choose Georgetown and thrive on our campuses, a core commitment of the Called to Be campaign.

‘A massive part of making my Georgetown dream come true’

The financial support provided by the Wall Street Alliance “was such a massive part of making my Georgetown dream come true,” says Wall Street Alliance Scholar Siddharth Mucchal (SFS’21). “During my time at Georgetown, and after, it enabled me to focus on my interests and exploring my areas of passion, which has paid dividends since.” Watch the video to hear more about the alliance’s growth and impact across the last 25 years.

Building a tradition and a crucial fund

The Wall Street Alliance dates back to the early 1990s, when William P. Frank (C’63), Victor R. Wright [father of Jennifer (C’96) and Samantha (C’99)], and James F. Higgins (B’70) proposed that the university develop a Wall Street affinity group, seeking to create a mutually beneficial network connecting Georgetown alumni, parents, and friends in the financial community. With support from then-President Leo J. O’Donovan, S.J., the founding leaders launched the Georgetown University Wall Street Alliance, and in 2000 created the Wall Street Alliance Scholarship Fund.

Since then, the Wall Street Alliance Scholarship Dinner has brought the Georgetown community in the New York metro area together to support Georgetown’s commitment to meet the financial needs of its undergraduate students. As of January 2025, the Wall Street Alliance Scholarship had the highest corpus amount of any endowed fund for scholarships at Georgetown. In fiscal year 2024, the fund generated more than $1M to support students. helping to ensure that ambitious, passionate students with wide-ranging experiences and backgrounds continue to choose Georgetown University for their undergraduate education, regardless of their ability to pay.

Connecting fellow Hoyas

Another goal of the alliance is to provide networking and mentorship opportunities for current and future Georgetown students, enabling them to explore careers in business and financial services. Each year, the scholarship dinner celebrates and highlights a different member of the Georgetown community (view past honorees here), leaders and innovators who are having a significant impact not just within their industries, but also in the community and globally. Alliance members also provide ongoing assistance to the Main Campus, MBA, SFS, and Law Center career centers.

“It became another community, another outlet for me to reach out to if I ever need anything. …I can’t think of a time that the Wall Street Alliance has not been there for me.”

—Kwabena Adu-Diawuo (C’17), Wall Street Alliance Scholar

A model poised for ongoing impact

Inspired by the Wall Street Alliance, the Georgetown University Alumni Association now has several professional alliances, including the Georgetown Entertainment and Media Alliance, the Georgetown Technology Alliance, the Georgetown Entrepreneurship Alliance, and the Georgetown Angel Investor Network.

Wall Street Alliance leaders, meanwhile, say they look forward to ongoing growth, both in the size and strength of the network and the amount of scholarship support generated by its annual fundraiser.
